Vendor Spotlight – Lady Crimson Cloth Emporium

Meet Sophie, the curator behind Lady Crimson Cloth Emporium!

My name is Sophie Prisque. I was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario. Along with my husband, we have two children. I have always been a creative person. All mediums of art interested me, so it was only natural to follow an artistic career. I never thought I would be running my own business, let alone being responsible for empowering so many women in my community. This path I’m on cannot be more rewarding. I only hope I can continue for many years and generations to come.

What was your inspiration to start Lady Crimson Cloth Emporium?

I truly believe it was meant to be. It literally, simply fell into my lap. Cloth diapering my son, I’m sure, made the entire idea a bit more easy to comprehend but there was nothing that guided me to what I do now. Once I started making the cloth pads though, I had to expand because I quickly realized that not everyone needed pads. The reusable movement fell into place for me and I think we now offer a really good variety for just about anyone, at any age.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love seeing young ladies accept cloth into their period routine. Because it’s still a taboo subject, the fact that the younger generation is slowly realizing that there are healthier and environmentally safer options is a dream come true!

Do you work out of a home or studio location?

We’ve created an area in the house that is dedicated to the business. This can create some serious time managing skills that I’m still learning but I believe it keeps a small business afloat. Cutting unnecessary costs is key. We are working at accumulating stockists around the city and outskirts that can carry our products to allow customers to find our products at all time.

What is your bestselling item?

Definitely our pads. It was our first product and will always be our main focus. As for “non pad” items, our beeswax wraps sell like hot cakes! They are a great alternative to plastic wrap. Easy to use, easy to wash. And with the 3 sizes we offer, it covers for a variety of items that would need to be wrapped.

Do you have any exciting plans for the future that you want customers to know about?

We hope to be able to offer low income or single moms starter packs through donations. Women who have no extra income to buy disposable products struggle on a monthly basis. It can be stressful and embarrassing. No women should feel ashamed for being on their period. We hope that by offering reusable options, we can help eliminate the stress for them.

What drives your passion?

It will always come down to converting women. I’ve received countless messages telling me how their lives have changed since switching. Offering women this amazing alternative empowers them. The potential to help them with health and hormonal issues, as well as helping our planet is all I could ever ask for.
