Having worked within the medical field for over 25 years, I saw firsthand how we have become complacent and figure the medical field has all the answers. Holistic healing is not something that is new or of a new age. This modality has been around for thousands of years dating back to the Egyptian times and beyond.

I initially started with Energy Healing which has helped me to heal immensely. In 2017, having been on my healing journey for well over a year, I birthed what is now Wellness By Lily. I started small with only a few products such as my Anxiety Blend, Arthritis Blend, Headache Blend, Whipped Body Butter, Insect Repellent and Natural Deodorant. During this time, I was called to become an Aromatherapist as well as a Certified Herbalist.

Herbalism is taking the benefits of the plant medicines to assist and heal not only your symptoms but goes to the root cause of the ailment. Over time we have stopped listening to what our bodies have been telling us. The signs or symptoms like headache, upset stomach or pain. These are signs that the body is communicating to you that something is off. We need to get back to listening to what the body is not only telling us but what it needs.

One simple method I demonstrate to my clients is what I call the Sway Method. This is an example of how it is done:

Take a supplement you are taking such as Vitamin D – standing up, take the bottle and hold it over your heart with your eyes closed to connect with your body and ask your body – Do I need to take Vitamin D. If you move forward – that is a YES, if you move backwards – that is a NO. If the answer is yes, you can ask how many I need to take – One capsule once per day and continue until you get a yes to the appropriate amount your body wants.

This method can be done with almost anything you wish to do. For example, you are craving something sweet, ask your body by simply crossing both your hands over your heart and ask do I need something sweet or do I need more water. The body knows what it wants.

One nutritional plant that is in abundance at this time of year is the Dandelion. It is high in micronutrients and phytonutrients like iron, manganese, carotenes, calcium and potassium as well it is also high in inulin. Inulin is a starchy carbohydrate that can help restore healthy gut flora.

Dandelion roots are an important medicine. It is used to support liver health. If you have a congested liver, gallbladder issues, gallstone formation, dandelion tea or tincture is your solution to help alleviate these symptoms.

A simple way is to make a tea with the dried roots. Take approximately 16oz of boiling water and pour it over 2 tablespoons of dried Dandelion root and allow it to steep for a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes. Once it has steeped for the desired time, strain with a fine wire mesh strainer and drink it as you are relaxing. By itself, you may find it has a bitter taste, so I would suggest you add a little bit of raw honey to sweeten it a little and enjoy.

This herb which the general population considers it a weed, has so many medicinal benefits. There are several others that are considered weeds such as Plantain (not the banana) the plant, Self-Heal is another as well as Yarrow. Plantain for example, if you are cut yourself and you have plantain within your area, take a broad leaf and crumple it up to get some of the juices of the plant to come out and place it on the cut to help stop the bleeding. It is amazing the plants which we consider weeds, that have multiple medicinal benefits.

I truly enjoy helping individuals heal themselves. It is my true purpose in life not only to help people heal themselves but to educate them on ways to achieve their best health and life. Sometimes, when we need to make changes in our life, we tend to take too big of a chunk and get frustrated. The best way to obtain your optimal health is to take it one step at a time. The gold old saying – “How do you eat an elephant. One bite at a time”. It is the same with our health. The biggest takeaway from all of this is to do what works for you. What works for one doesn’t necessarily mean it will work for you.
